SCARF has a vibrant board of management of people from different vocations and walks of life which closely supervises our work and finances.



R.Seshasayee: has been the President of the Board of Management of SCARF since 2010. A Chartered Accountant, he started his career with Hindustan Lever Ltd in 1971. He is presently the Chairman of Infosys Ltd, having served on its Board from 2011. Seshasayee joined Ashok Leyland in 1976, rose to become Executive Director – Finance in 1983 and was elevated to Deputy Managing Director in 1993 and Managing Director in 1998. He became the Executive Vice Chairman of Ashok Leyland in 2011, and was Non-Executive Vice Chairman, until July 2016. He led Ashok Leyland’s transformation into a self-reliant, globally competitive technology leader seeking growth through globalisation and diversification, via acquisitions and joint ventures. Seshasayee was the President of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) during 2006-07 and has been an active leader of CII for over 20 years. He was the President of Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the apex body representing the Indian automobile industry during 2001-03. Seshasayee has served on several government and professional committees. He is also associated with many NGOs and voluntary efforts. He has been providing dynamic leadership at SCARF and initiated many processes and procedures for streamlining the organization.

Founder Advisor

Dr.Sarada Menon:

The first woman psychiatrist in the country, she is passionate about rehabilitation. An internationally reputed Psychiatrist, held the post of the Superintendent of the Institute of Mental Health, Chennai for over 18 years. She was largely instrumental in getting the annual grant from the State Government and the land to construct the day care center. Dr.Sarada Menon stepped down from the post of Director in 1995, making way for Dr.Thara, the present Director. Dr. Sarada Menon was awarded the Padma Bhushan by the President of India.

Vice President


Is one of our very active members. He was the former director, TISCO. He also served in the United Nations Industrial Organization (UNIDO), Vienna and as a consultant to the UN Economic and Social Commission in Baghdad. He was an active Rotarian for nearly 13 years in Jamshedpur.

Secretary to the Board & Director, SCARF


She is a psychiatrist by training and a co-founder of SCARF. She has been the Director since 1993. Passionate about disability issues, she lobbied a lot to include mental disability in the Persons with Disabilities Act in 1995.She was largely instrumental in the development of ‘IDEAS’, a measuring tool to assess mental disability. Dr.Thara is instrumental in linking with WHO and other international organizations. She is the Advisor on mental health issues to the DG, WHO, Geneva and is a member of the Institute Body of NIMHANS. She is also a recipient of Asoka Fellowship for the family and Community Program in Mental Health.


Ms. C.K.Gariyali

I.A.S (Retd),

A founder member, she served the Govt. of Tamilnadu in many important positions such as collector of Madras and Secretary Social Welfare, Health etc, . She retired from service as the Special Secretary to the Governor of Tamilnadu. Dr.Shantha Kamath is a psychiatrist by training and has been working in SCARF since 1988. She coordinates clinical services and is also in charge of one of our residential centres, Bavishya Bhavan. Dr.R.Padmavati is also a psychiatrist and been working in SCARF since 1990. She has been the Additional Director since 2015. She is equally active in clinical work and research activities and involved in international collaborations.

Mr .R.Kuppuswamy

He was elected to the board in 2009. He served as the General Sales Manager in SAIL and later in Hindustan Copper Ltd, Calcutta. He was the Indian representative of C.B.I Engineering A/S, Denmark. R. Dr Suresh Sankar A.B. (Int Med, Neph) FRCP (E) Chief Medial Officer, Davita Kidney care. He has 17 years of clinical experience in Nephrology. Beyond patient care his interest include Quality in health care, Clinical leadership, resource optimisation to drive efficiency in private health systems and capability to work across all functions of management. In his current position, he directs and drives collaborative and pilot projects with clinical leaders and Senior management in Asia Pacific region and global locations. He has expertise in building strong health care teams and good quality clinical research.

Mrs. Meenakshi Ramesh

Mrs. Meenakshi Ramesh : A management graduate, she is a founding member of the Chennai chapter of Citizen matters, an online platform for increasing citizen engagement and is also a promoter of the Menterra social impact fund. For nearly 10 years she worked with the Pratham Educational Foundation a large NGO working with children in Mumbai.


He has been the member of the board since 2000. He is the businessman and industrial consultant. He is the member of the British Association of Scholars and was awarded the OBE by the UK Government.

Mrs. Sheila Jayaprakash

She has been a member since 2006. She is an eminent and practicing Lawyer in Madras High Court and specializes in cases related to Women and Human Rights.


He is the Dental Surgeon by profession and has won several awards and certificates in the field of Dentistry.

Former Presidents of SCARF Board of Management


An eminent industrialist, the late Mr DCK was the first President and served in that capacity till his demise.


Mr.V.T.Somasundaram, was the second President. He was the Managing Director of Trichy Distilleries and chemicals. He played an active role in raising funds for the organization.
