This fully automated helpline of SCARF
provides information on mental illness and the
various treatment facilities available.
It speaks in detail about the early symptoms of mental illness such as schizophrenia, depression, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, etc. There also a separate menu available that will inform a person about the various treatment options as well as the facilities where these can be availed.
There is also a special section, which deals with disorders frequently seen in children, and another section that deals with disorders in the elderly. Information about SCARF, its facilities, contact details, etc are also available on the help line.
The help line is completely automated so as to provide anonymity to the caller who may not wish to be identified. The helpline can be accessed in English, Tamil and Hindi. It has been operational since Jan 2005 and has been accessed by over 70,000people.
