SCARF’s silver jubilee celebrations was held on Feb.22, 2009 in Chennai. Dr.Anbumani Ramadoss, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India was the Chief Guest. Dr.Thara presented an overview of SCARF’s growth and activities over the last 25 years. Mr.Murali of the Hindu spoke on the role of media in promoting social entrepreneurship. Other participants were Dr Dr.Dinesh Bhugra president Royal College of Psychiatry, UK, Sarojini Varadappan,- a social worker of repute, Dr Mohan Das, president of Indian Psychiatric Society from Kerala, Dr. Rajasekar, eminent urologist, associated with National Board of Examinations. The Health Minister congratulated SCARF on this milestone and announced that SCARf would be a centre for training students in psychiatry for the DNB examinations.

The function was well attended by donors, friends and well wishers of SCARF. Many friends from across the world sent their greetings. To quote Dr.Saraceno , Director, Mental Health Division of WHO, Geneva :

On April 12, 2010, the Worshipful Mayor of Chennai, Mr.Subramanian, received the special envelope released by the Postal department to mark the silver jubilee of SCARF from Mr.Ramanujan, Post master general, Chennai city area. The Mayor was well sensitized to the problems of the mentally ill and assured to look at the revision of property tax for the Anna Nagar building. Mr.Ramanujan came forward to offer some jobs for our improved patients. The event was well covered by the media.
